Quick answer Quick answer
This 4 day Serengeti camping safari costs $950 per person and runs 4 days from Arusha with 6 guests in a pop-up roof 4x4 Land Rover. Entrance fees, tents, sleeping bags, meals per the itinerary and a cook are included. Free cancellation applies 24 hours before departure.
Key takeaways
- Two Serengeti nights mean a full day of game drives there, which a 3-day trip cannot match: see the 3-Day Serengeti Camping Safari for the shorter version.
- Want a bed instead of a tent on the same 4-day frame? Look at the 4-Day Serengeti Mid-Range Safari.
- The full route day by day below comes straight from the listing's own itinerary.
- The 4.4 score is the lowest among the camping options, so read the latest reviews before booking.
What the Price Actually Covers
The $950 figure is the listing price on GetYourGuide. Here is what the operator states as included, what it states as excluded, and the gaps worth knowing before you book.
Inclusions and Exclusions
The listing is clearer than many on fees: entrance fees are listed as included, which is not always the case on budget camping trips. Meals follow the itinerary, so a packed lunch on day 1, then breakfast, lunch and dinner at camp, with a picnic lunch at Ngoitoktok Springs on day 4. Bottled water is included, as are the tents, sleeping bags, the guide, the cook and the 4x4 Land Rover with pop-up roof.
Drinks and tips are excluded. The listing names no other paid extras, but the optional Olduvai Gorge stop on day 3 carries a museum fee whose amount is not stated, so ask the operator before the day. International flights, a visa, insurance and any nights in Arusha before or after the trip are not mentioned in the inclusions, so treat them as your own cost.
| Line | In the price | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Park entrance fees | Yes, listed as included | Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater |
| Accommodation | Yes | 3 nights in tents, sleeping bags provided |
| Meals | Yes | Packed lunch day 1, camp meals after, picnic lunch at Ngoitoktok Springs day 4 |
| Drinks | No | Excluded, bottled water is included |
| Tips | No | Excluded |
| Olduvai Gorge museum | No | Optional stop on day 3, fee amount not stated |
| Flights | No | No flights in the itinerary, all travel by road |
| Visa and insurance | No | Not stated as included, budget for them separately |
How It Sits in the Catalog
At $950 this is the middle of the camping bracket. The 3-Day Serengeti Camping Safari costs $770 but leaves you one Serengeti night instead of two. The 5-Day Serengeti Camping Safari adds a full Tarangire day for $1,320.
For a real bed and shower, the 4-Day Serengeti Mid-Range Safari runs $1,750. The main caveats here are the 4.4 rating from 51 reviews, the lowest of the camping options, and reviewer comments about the public campsite's toilet and shower. Neither changes the inclusions, but both argue for reading the latest reviews before paying.
- Two Serengeti nights at $950 versus one at $770 on the 3-day trip
- Entrance fees stated as included, which the $770 listing does not state
- 4.4 from 51 reviews, so read recent ones before booking

The Route Day by Day
The itinerary below follows the operator's own description. Days 1 and 2 sit inside Serengeti National Park, day 3 moves toward Ngorongoro and day 4 is the crater floor before the drop-off in Arusha.
Four Days, Two Parks
Day 1 is the road leg: pickup at your Arusha hotel, the drive toward the Serengeti with a game drive on the way, and the first night at a campsite in the park. Day 2 is a full day of game drives in the Serengeti, which is the main argument for the fourth day. Day 3 breaks camp and moves to Ngorongoro A campsite, with an optional stop at Olduvai Gorge on the way. Day 4 descends to the crater floor for a game drive, eats a picnic lunch at Ngoitoktok Springs, then returns to your Arusha hotel.
The listing gives no clock times for departure or return, only that pickup happens in Arusha and that you can check availability for starting times. The crater sits roughly 180 to 190 km west of Arusha depending on the source, so both road days are long ones. Bring cash for the optional Olduvai museum fee.
| Day | Route | Night at |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Arusha hotel pickup, drive to Serengeti National Park with a game drive en route | Campsite in the Serengeti |
| Day 2 | Full day of game drives in Serengeti National Park | Campsite in the Serengeti |
| Day 3 | Drive out of the Serengeti, optional Olduvai Gorge stop (extra museum fee), on to Ngorongoro | Ngorongoro A campsite |
| Day 4 | Crater floor game drive, picnic lunch at Ngoitoktok Springs, return to Arusha | Not applicable, tour ends at your Arusha hotel |
The Vehicle and the Group
You share a 4x4 Land Rover with a pop-up roof with 6 clients plus the driver and the chef. That means a guaranteed chef-cooked camp meal each night rather than self-catering, and a window is not guaranteed to everyone in a vehicle of that size. The pop-up roof is what you stand under for game viewing.
The listing states no minimum age, no language list and no difficulty level, so confirm any of those directly with the operator if they matter to you.

Who This Trip Rules Out
No trip suits everyone. These are the stated limits of this listing and the alternatives to look at instead.
Tent Comfort and Campsite Facilities
You sleep in a tent with a sleeping bag for 3 nights, at public campsites. Reviewers mention a poorly kept toilet and shower at the public campsite and suggest bringing wipes. If that sounds grim, the 4-Day Serengeti Mid-Range Safari puts you in lodges for $1,750 per person.
No minimum age is stated for this trip, so families with small children should confirm directly whether the operator takes them.
- Bring wipes and soap for the public campsite facilities
- Sleeping bags are provided, so you do not need to carry your own
- No bag or weight rule is stated, since there are no light aircraft flights
Long Drive Days and the Score
All travel is by road from Arusha, and the crater lies roughly 180 to 190 km from the city depending on the source, so day 1 and day 4 are long driving days. If a flight to the Serengeti would suit you better, the Serengeti Fly-In Safari lands in the park on day 1. If you want a third day in the parks without the fourth, the 3-Day Serengeti Big Five Safari is $900 with all park fees and a 4.8 score from 70 reviews.
The 4.4 rating from 51 reviews is the lowest among the camping listings, and the data does not explain the gap. The honest advice is to read the most recent reviews on the GetYourGuide listing before you commit, and to weigh the entrance fees being included against that score.

Season, Fees and Paperwork
Background from published sources on when to travel, what the park fees are, and what documents you need. It applies to any 4 day Serengeti camping safari, not just this one.
When to Go
SafariBookings puts the Serengeti dry season at June to October and the wet season at November to May, with the heaviest rain in March and April, and high season running July to March. Daytime highs average about 27 °C with chilly nights. SafariBookings describes the migration as an 800 km loop with more than 2 million wildebeest, zebra and gazelle, and it moves with the rain, so no listing can promise where the herds will be on your dates.
More than 3,000 lions live in the Serengeti-Maasai Mara ecosystem per Wikipedia.
- June to October: dry season
- November to May: wet season, heaviest rain in March and April
- The herds move with the rain, so treat any sighting as luck rather than promise
Fees and Entry Rules
Entrance fees are listed as included in this price, so the tariff figures below matter mainly for context. The 2023/24 TANAPA tariff sets the Serengeti conservation fee for non-East African adults aged 16 and over at US $70 per day in peak season and $60 in low season, with peak defined as 16 May to 14 March. Children aged 5 to 15 pay $20 per day and under-5s are free.
For paperwork, SafariFind lists a single-entry tourist visa at $50 valid up to 90 days and a multiple-entry visa at $100. Tanzania Specialist suggests tipping a safari driver-guide 10 USD per day per person in your group, while Duma Explorer suggests $50 per vehicle per day shared among passengers. Tips are excluded from this price.

What to Pack
Expert Africa advises light summer clothing for the midday heat and warm layers for cool mornings and nights, and says khaki, green, brown and dark beige work best while white and bright colours attract animals. Pack warm layers for the Ngorongoro night, since the crater rim sits about 2,300 m above sea level per Duma Explorer. Pack wipes for the campsite facilities, cash in dollars for tips and the optional Olduvai museum fee, and a soft bag for the back of the Land Rover.
The what to wear on safari guide and the safari packing list cover the detail. For park background, read the Serengeti National Park guide and the best time to visit Serengeti page.

Pros and Cons
An honest read of the listing against the other camping options in the catalog.
What we genuinely like
- Two Serengeti nights give a full day of game drives there, which 3-day trips cannot offer
- Park entrance fees are stated as included, which the cheaper 3-day listing does not state
- A cook travels with the group, so camp meals are cooked for you
- Free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure and reserve now, pay later
The honest downsides
- The 4.4 rating from 51 reviews is the lowest of the camping listings and the reason is not explained
- Reviewers report a poorly kept toilet and shower at the public campsite
- Drinks and tips are excluded, and the optional Olduvai Gorge museum fee is not stated in advance
- Both road days between Arusha and the parks are long, with no flights in the itinerary
Who it's NOT for: Not for travellers who need a proper bed, a private vehicle or a short road day, who should look at the mid-range or fly-in listings instead.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does this 4 day Serengeti camping safari cost?
The listing price is $950 per person on GetYourGuide, including park entrance fees, 3 nights of camping, meals per the itinerary and a cook. Drinks and tips are excluded. Compare it with the 3-Day Serengeti Camping Safari at $770.
Are park fees included in the $950?
Yes, entrance fees are listed as included, which puts this listing ahead of several competitors whose inclusions stay silent. The 3-Day Serengeti Big Five Safari also includes all park fees for $900 over 3 days.
What are the campsites like?
You sleep in tents with sleeping bags provided, 2 nights at a Serengeti campsite and 1 at Ngorongoro A campsite. Reviewers mention a poorly kept toilet and shower at the public campsite and suggest bringing wipes. If tents are not for you, the 4-Day Serengeti Mid-Range Safari uses lodges.
How big is the group?
It is a shared group safari with 6 clients in the 4x4 Land Rover with pop-up roof, plus the driver and the chef. For fewer people per booking, the 3-Day Private Serengeti Safari takes 2 to 7 in a private vehicle.
Can I cancel if my plans change?
Yes, free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure for a full refund, and reserve now, pay later is available. That is far more flexible than the 5-Day Serengeti Ngorongoro Safari, where all sales are final.
Is the Great Migration included?
SafariBookings puts the migration at more than 2 million animals on an 800 km loop and it moves with the rain, so no listing can promise a sighting on fixed dates. This trip's two Serengeti nights give you more time in the park. For a migration-focused trip, see the 8-Day Serengeti Migration Safari.
What extra money should I bring?
Drinks and tips are excluded, and the optional Olduvai Gorge visit on day 3 carries a museum fee whose amount is not stated, so carry cash. Tanzania Specialist suggests tipping a driver-guide 10 USD per day per person in your group, while Duma Explorer suggests $50 per vehicle per day shared among passengers. The safari packing list covers what else to bring.
What Travelers Said
Ali is a great tour guide. He drove well and showed us lots of animals. We were fortunate to see all the big 5. Christian is a amazing cook and served us delicious local food throughout the trip.
Overall, it was an incredible experience! Our driver was dedicated to spotting wildlife, allowing us to witness all of the Big 5 animals. They’d stop near the animals, giving us ample time for observation and photos. Camping was surprisingly comfortable with soft mats and warm sleeping bags. Despite chilly nights (around 15°C), we slept soundly. The chef amazed us with elaborate dishes, a delightful surprise as we expected simpler meals. We eagerly anticipated each flavorful meal. The only downside was the campsite showers’ cleanliness, so we didn’t shower during the tour. However, we expected this to some extent. We’d suggest bringing wet wipes for freshening up, just like we did.
Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater are spectacular. The trip was well organised, our driver and cook first class. The only problem I had at the end was getting back to Kilimanjaro airport on the last day in time for my 6pm flight. After some discussion, the company organised a private car for me to take me from the Ngorongoro rim to the airport in time after a morning tour in the crater. Our driver Elly and the cook Christian were very helpful and reliable.
